Fascinating interview with Stuart Immonen. https://twitter.com/grass_parnassus/status/1321881070984261634
And to flesh out one of Stuart’s comments about Gorilla — I’d spent so much time on putting together the structure and helping recruit people that when we were pretty much set to go, everyone was either paired off or writing/drawing solo, and I realized I didn’t have anyone to...
…work with!

Stuart was someone whose work I’d admired a lot, and Karl was very complimentary about working with him, so I got his number from Karl and called him up.
SUPERSTAR happened because it was a project I’d very much wanted to do, and had lots of notes for (and costume designs from an earlier never-realized anthology magazine project), so I was ready to go with it.

But Stuart was more interested in doing something non-superhero, as...
…I recall, and so we cooked up SHOCKROCKETS, based on Stuart having been reading old SURF ’N’ WHEELS comics and wanting to draw vehicles of some sort, which I thought sounded like a lot of fun.

My plan was that after finishing the first SHOCKROCKETS mini, we’d do a SUPERSTAR...
…mini, and then a second SHOCKROCKETS, and so on, unless we came up with other projects to add in to the mix.

But as it was, we were lucky to get those two projects finished at all, but I’m glad we got to do both of them.
And that led to SUPERMAN: SECRET IDENTITY, so…I think it was a pretty good idea, giving Stuart a call.
