The UK pays UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS to a large number of its UNEMPLOYED citizens (in some cases, it pays to those that are employed). Let's not even begin to talk about other benefits like the various disability benefits, the reduction in some taxes for people who live alone etc.

Most Importantly, HEALTH CARE is FREE courtesy the NHS. No one has to die because they cannot afford to go to the hospital!
