Ok, great - but how do we use this incredible knowledge to protect ourselves and others from respiratory infections?

Ah… Well, let's go on another short journey. https://twitter.com/Epi_D_Nique/status/1321936463987154951
2/ Those gross body droplets that come out of us when we talk, sing, shout, cough, sneeze, and pretty much just breathe?

We need to stop them from getting out!

Or coming in!

Or at least make sure not too many of them can get into our bodies (or someone else's)
3/ Let's start with the easy(er) one: keeping gross body droplets (and their possible viral stow-aways) from getting out and landing on other people or just floating in the air.

You know what I'm going to say, right? Right

Wear a mask!

Masks keeps your droplets to yourself!
4 / Of course, masks only really work if worn correctly.

Thankfully @WearingisCaring has excellent explainers and graphics to help us all learn how to wear our masks like pros, how to choose the right mask for us, and other helpful tips and tricks!

5 / Masks not only help keep our gross body droplets from getting out, they also help keep the gross body droplets of others from getting into our mouths & noses.

Unless you have a full respirator this isn't 100%, but it definitely helps with the direct spray situations!
6/ Of course that still leaves your eyes vulnerable, so grab some sweet shades or goggles for extra protection!
7/ While masks are pretty good at keeping those droplets in, they aren't perfect. And what if you don't have one?

1. Get out of spray range! Keep at least 6 feet apart.

That takes care of the direct spray. But what about the floating gross drops?

Meet me at the next tweet.
8/ When we think about gross infectious droplets in the air, we can use cigarette smoke to help us out.

Anyone remember the days before smoking bans in bars & restaurants?

The air was filled with smoke and you definitely smelled like it when you left. YUCK.
9/ Now, imagine that smoke is infectious bits of coronavirus floating in the air… GROSS.

We want that out of the air - NOW.

So what do you do when someone is smoking (or you burn something while cooking)?

GET AIRFLOW!

Get outside, open windows, blast an air filter.
10 / In the same way that being with someone who is smoking outside means you breath in way less second hand smoke, being outside or having air flowing inside means everyone breaths in less floating body gunk and their accompanying viruses.

Fresh air is the best air!
11 / Putting this all together:

1. Wear a mask and glasses/goggles! 😷 😎
2. Stay out of spray range! 6+ ft apart.↔️
3. Keep the air flowing: fresh air is the best air! 💨
-Stay outside, open windows, use a HEPA filter.

Avoid: Close, crowded, and closed spaces.
12 / That's it! That's the thread on how to prevent respiratory infections!

(Also, if you are sick or have any symptoms - STAY HOME! )

The end!
