One of our favorite cheap and easy pasta dishes is spaghetti aglio e olio. We add black olives and anchovy paste. https://medium.com/@orsararecipes/spaghetti-aglio-e-oligo-with-anchovies-recipe-214d92e47eab

We make this for the large adult kids and they LOVE it. We usually add sausage if we have it.

Mr Zing used to own a wholesale produce company, that meant a bounty of free, fresh produce. Eggplant cutlets are filling, cheap and yummy. (I can’t eat eggplant but it’s a great meal and kids don’t know it’s a veggie)
Stale bread hack:
Heat oven to 400 and sprinkle water over bread before putting in oven. It will crisp up and be fresh again!

We eat a LOT of frittatas, it’s a great way to use up leftovers and a cheap protein (eggs). This one has potatoes, sausage, hot dogs, etc.
Shepherd’s Pie (cottage pie across the pond) is another good one. You can use powdered potatoes, peas and any meat.
Always buy butter but also buy olive oil and heavy cream! You NEED fat for flavor and if you have all 3, you can expand your recipes without breaking the bank or deal with expiry dates.
(And yogurt!)
