You understand that if corporations could get their wish, they would just as well like to """rethink""" what it means to own a hamburger, i.e. have you sign a use license agreement and pay for it twice if your girlfriend wants to have a bite as well.
Permitting copyright law to go there means nullifying protection of ownership for the vast majority of people. It prophesies a world where you own nothing, corporations own everything, and you pay for the privilege of a limited number of uses (praise their grace you peasants).
This is already moving to physical objects with e.g. copyrighted GMOs where you are not permitted to replant, so the danger that copyright law poses to the foundation of civil law can not be overstated.
If such licensing practices are permitted they can and will extend to everything. It is already par for the course for streaming and library books were an early warning. Pirate everything and screw the rotten carcases that complain. It's basically a duty of Right at this point.
