A wonderful save that explains why Ter Stegen is not an elite shot-stopper.

From this distance, a GK should be anticipating. Like during a penalty. But Ter Stegen thinks this is futsal, hence why elite scorers in Europe have it easy against him. Same thing De Gea, btw. https://twitter.com/Zona_Blaugrana/status/1321922189273272322
Courtois won Madrid the clasico with that save on Messi.

He moved to right, anticipating the easy tap-in pass to Coutinho. And then when Messi realised that he left the goal wide-open, Courtois recovered brilliantly.
Now if he just stood there, it wouldn't have been his fault. But he wouldn't have had the chance to make the stop. That's why Ter Stegen is never at fault but he rarely doesn't extra-ordinary saves either. Most of his saves are shots from far or shots close to his body.
Another example.

Valdes anticipates Henry's finish. MATS would've waited & eventually stuck out his foot when it was too late. Would it have been his fault? No. But GK's on 20M/year should make CL winning saves. And Ter Stegen doesn't. Because he doesn't anticipate. Too reactive
