I will have a TAKE on all of this editors are censorship stuff as soon as I finish this small mountain of editing.
Oh woof.

OK let me catch you up.

Glenn Greenwald resigned from The Intercept because, he says, of censorship.

The Intercept says this is just how editing works. https://bit.ly/3oON294
Thankfully, Greenwald shared his emails with the editor in which we see that the editor gave detailed, thorough and nuanced comments.

Greenwald went from 0-60 and in the first response threatens to cancel his contract. https://bit.ly/37UJkom
First disclaimer: This is opinion editing. I have never done opinion editing. It's a different thing.

But basically the edits given are asking him to support, clarify or remove sections that are unclear or that might give impressions not supported by the facts.
This ... this is literally how editing is supposed to work.

An editor asking you to change stuff is not censorship. And an outlet, even one you work for, not wanting to publish something isn't censorship. And DO NOT EVEN SAY IT IS A FIRST AMENDMENT ISSUE I WILL BREAK
The editor didn't say, "take out everything critical of Biden." The editor said, you didn't support these accusations. You have proof to support accusations of liberal media bias and Biden avoiding questions. Write that!

He didn't ask the guy to endorse Biden for president.
This is how editing works. Sometimes the story you think you're writing isn't supported. That doesn't mean there isn't *a* story there. It just isn't *that* story. This is normal and good! An editor helps you get out of the trees and see the forest.
Every writer needs an editor. It's cliche but it's true. No one is perfect. We all get in our own heads or go down weird paths or need someone to call us on our BS. I treasure every time, personally and professionally, that I have worked with a good editor.
It can be uncomfortable for everyone! it requires a level of trust between writer and editor and a belief that each is acting in good faith.

Clearly at least one side did share that belief. And we don't know that relationship. The response from The Intercept was spicy.
But based on the edits he published, the editor was respectful, polite and shared ways to make the story publishable.

Greenwald does not appear to have liked that, based on his responses.
