If you look at the only two somewhat free market #healthcare fields in the US, they’ve been going down in price. For instance LASIK eye surgery: if you look from around the early '90's to around 2012, prices dropped 70%-75%. Because people paid for that with their own money...
...the different clinics had to compete; while the prices are going down 70% in that field, general healthcare costs are going up 125% because you’re not paying the real price. You couldn’t even comparison price shop if you wanted to!
15 years ago I didn’t have insurance for a while, and had to have an MRI or CAT scan, so I called a few places to find out how much it cost: nobody could tell me.
They said, "We have to ask your insurance company".
I said, "Well I don’t have insurance."
"Then we can’t tell you."
