I know it’s like comics 101, but a character scaling a vertical height in a long vertical panel will never not be extremely satisfying
If you do it right, the physical properties of the page become the distance and height. Low angle first panel shows height to travel, final panel uses bottom negative space to create a sense of progression and height
Like if the panel was just this... you get the impression still, right? Like you can see he’s climbing up a wall. But you don’t get my sense of progression or stance travelled.
But by using the physical space, the dimensions of the page, actual vertical space on the page, it suddenly looks like he’s been climbing up a long length of that wall.
