Bryophytes (mosses, liverworts and hornworts) are key indicators of rainforest: Britain and Ireland have one of the richest Bryophyte floras on the planet, rivalling the cloud rainforests in the Americas, Africa and the rest of the world.
Some of these species amazingly occur in rainforests throughout the world, others are particular to Britain and Ireland. UK & Ireland best: "An impoverished version of the same flora can be found in Western Norway, Brittany and the extreme western parts of Spain and Portugal".
Western Britain and Ireland have high rainfall, small differences between summer and winter temperatures, numerous crags, scree and steep-sided burns, and is away from the main centres of population and pollution: ideal for supporting rainforest species.
This is what a lot of Britain should look like. https://twitter.com/CountrysideBen/status/925780962214105089
