It’s very telling that when Black women in Hollywood “advocate” for “Black women”, it’s always through the lens of Black women in Hollywood. Higher pay for them, more power and access for them, more fictional Black woman characters.
Same with professional Black women. “Poor Black women are being killed by medical racism, environmental racism, and victimized daily by anti-Black carceral systems that punish them for being poor, and this is why I should get promoted and you should listen to me in meetings.”
There is no conversation about how wealthy Black women and these striver-climber, “ascend the ranks so I can have the wealth and access too” values contribute to the exploitation/oppression of poor Black women as folks use our traumas, deaths + dying to advocate for themselves.
