like i remember being told that homosexuality (even in thought) is a sin and that i should pray on it until i changed my mind. i remember being taught that god-granted manifest destiny justified the land we stole from the natives. i remember all of that shit and it did damage

fuck you to my catholic middle school and its all-white staff. your only black employee works for facilities and was assigned to the school by a third-party employer

and fuck you to my catholic high school, where american exceptionalism was shoved down my throat unironically and a religious studies teacher told a gay student he was going to hell

young children are so impressionable. to be exposed to that kind of hatred and misinformation at such a young age ... it took me years to unlearn all of it. i just scratched the surface with examples. and i’m still learning every day
