Okay so there’s been a lot of people with Pep in/Pep out & I want to tackle this with my opinion specifically in Europe and not England because obviously he has truly conquered all of England

Has Pep really failed to win the CL 4 times? Well not really, I’ll explain why below 👇🏻
Firstly, let’s talk about 2016-17. The goal was never to win the CL in that season anyway. Obviously there was extra pressure because Pellegrini (luckily & with KDB brilliance) managed to reach the semi. So there was media pressure to go all the way but not from our owners,no way
Now the main part, was 2016-17 exit Pep’s fault? NO

He tried to do the best he could with the oldest squad in the PL+many past their best

That Monaco team was special and we should’ve seen them out but a lot of people forget our back 4 for the second leg. 3 fullbacks, 1 CB 👀
So yeah, there’s nothing better we could’ve done for that game. Monaco absolutely ripped us apart in that first half, we were better in the second half. But their keeper saved everything as well, no way we were going through nor all the way & it didn’t matter in the grand scheme
Now fast forward to 2017-18. Pep got rid of a lot of old players & deadwood, bought players to suit his system, was also the season we won 100 points but we were absolutely shambolic against Liverpool

Was the exit Pep’s fault? Again, not really. Must blame players, I’ll explain👇🏻
Right, I’m not gonna upload videos because I don’t wanna get bagged but you can watch the video for yourself. The opening goal to Liverpool was horrible

Sane mispass, quick counter, Nico falls over, Eddy saves & 5 of our best in the box, Walker, Vinny, Ferna, Nico & Laporte fail
Now 2nd goal, sure it was a cracker from Ox great goal! But he was surrounded by 6 City players and given way too much space! Of course Ederson could’ve done better too

3rd goal, again 6 city players in the box. Ferna on Mane & Walker behind Mane, still Mane headed it in 🤦🏻‍♂️
So that first leg was dreadful, aside from the defensive mistakes, our key players did not turn up

Now the 2nd leg, there were some dodgy decisions. That handball from Milner, offside decision for Sane goal & yeah Bernardo hit the post

But again defensive slips & we conceded 2
That exit really pissed me off, first time I’ve ever switched off a City game

Could Pep have done better? I don’t think, this was in between crunch PL games like the derby. He tried to manage the squad but 4/5 goals were defensive errors & we turned up for just 1 out of 4 halves
Sigh, now the 2018-19 UCL, I personally think this was more on the players than Pep again. We need to blame our players for not stepping up, nobody is exempt from criticism.

BUT yes Pep did make a bad decision by waiting too long to get KDB & Sane on. 88th min? Wtf was that 😂
But honestly Aguero should’ve buried that penalty, it was extremely poor. Delph was out of form and Son capitalised on that

Then in the 2nd leg I don’t have to talk much. Laporte’s worst game in a City shirt, defensive slip ups again and unlucky decisions knocked us out
Again, could Pep have done anything better? Yeah, at the most putting KDB and Sane on a little earlier

But Aguero should have scored that penalty & everyone went missing in that first leg. Weak performance

Finally 3 mistakes gifted Spurs 3 goals in the second leg. Painful
Finally, we come to Lyon. I really have no words. In fact, during the draw the first thing I tweeted is Lyon will be way tougher than Juventus. We’d defeat Juve easily but not Lyon. Juve, a decent team great individuals. Lyon, a better team/unit

Had my doubts Pep would overthink
We can talk about the goals & the fact that Lyon’s second should’ve been a foul on Laporte but let’s be real, that line up was absolutely horrid from Pep.

No Bernardo in his hometown & former stadium, no Foden arguably our best player since restart, no Mahrez (top 3 last season)
Clearly overthought the line up and was set up too defensively! This exit was definitely on Pep! No excuses!

Sorry for the long ass thread but to sum up who’s the most to blame:

2016-17: Nobody
2017-18: Players
2018-19: Mostly players & bad luck
2019-20: Pep
Has Pep been a failure in Europe? On paper yes

Is he the only person to blame for all our exits? No

Both Pep & the players need to work hard to go the distance. It takes 2 hands to clap

I just want to win 1 CL to silence the media & rivals, that’s all. Hope we do it this year
We are City, Super City! Keep the faith 💙
