I& #39;ve stuck to Covid rules assiduously, and know that science and evidence are our way out of this.
But to those in NYC and LA who haven& #39;t opened cinemas, and others in India, Ireland here in Scotland, etc, who are now closing them, I say: show us how you made your decisions...
My local cinema @Filmhouse can keep its cafe open (1m distance, no masks when seated, talking) but its 3 screens (2m distance, masks,no talking) must close. Politicians/public health experts closing cinemas again: There& #39;s no evidence of Covid transmission in cinemas anywhere...
...so what extra data have you to justify your decision? Have you been to your local multiplex/indie cinema? Or are you just assuming that people are too close together there?
I understand that moviegoing is one of less important things you have to think about in this crisis..
...but if you are going to re-close a sector, a lifeline, a consolation, an affordable cultural entertainment, then you need to show us how you made your decision. Because that decision, if ill advised, risks killing off something vital, and valuable, a way out of the crisis.
