You& #39;re locking up the bookshop tonight and are doing your final rounds:
checking all the lights are out, and that no customers are hiding in the toilets. You& #39;re certain that the shop is empty, that you are alone, but just as you& #39;re setting the alarm, ...
checking all the lights are out, and that no customers are hiding in the toilets. You& #39;re certain that the shop is empty, that you are alone, but just as you& #39;re setting the alarm, ...
you hear a strange groaning sound coming from upstairs. You stop to
listen more closely. It doesn& #39;t sound human.
Should you go upstairs to investigate the mysterious sound, or walk to the base of the stairs and call up & #39;Hello…?& #39;

Not hearing any further sounds, you walk towards the back of the room towards the staff lift. As you pass the till, you survey the shelves and display tables ahead for signs of movement. There& #39;s a large, looming figure in the corner. You freeze.
The only sound is your heart pounding out of your chest, and after what feels like eternity, you take a few steps closer.
You let out a nervous laugh as you realise the shadowy figure is only the Gruffalo stand. Relieved, and feeling slightly ridiculous, you turn back towards fiction.

You climb up to the First Floor, a little annoyed that you’re being delayed - but anxious too.
You peer into the darkness trying to see what might have made the noise and call out “hello”. You hear a high-pitched giggle. Could a child have been left in the shop?

“Hello, is anyone there?” This time you definitely hear a child’s laughter. You walk into the literary criticism section. Sitting on the floor is an old-fashioned China doll.
Didn’t someone once tell you this used to be a nursery?

You reach down to pick it up, but it vanishes into smoke in your hand. You see a shadow flit past at the end of the shelf and decide it’s time to get out.
Do you hide in the Gaffer’s Office or run up to the 2nd floor?
