When you try to support a small business and it hurts you in the end.... [Thread]
Last month I decide I want to install a floating shelf in my room. I recall in a @RushCam video that Active Home Centre has nice tings. I decide to head down.
Reach down, find a lovely Walnut Floating shelf. Nice color and most importantly nice price. I just assumed that at AHC, it would have been more expensive. As I'm about to checkout, I say lemme call my "carpenter friend." 🤦🏾‍♂️
My reasoning.. . "I'll prefer to give my friend the business than a large corporation." I get his price, which was 20% more than AHC but no problem. Imma support him. I leave the shelf and head to his shop.
At the shop, I describe everything I want, new price which is now 35% more than AHC but no worries. He says, leave a deposit and you can collect end of day. It's around 10:30am. Of course I don't have much cash on me..
I got sidetracked on road, so I eventually reach back around 1:30pm he says "check him tomorrow". As I was late was cash, I say no problem. Tomorrow it is.
Tomorrow comes.. I try call him to check in, can't get him. I try a few times no answer. I say lemme try the day after. (1 day after agreed date)
I call him on WED (1 day after agreed date), he starts to say him start but need more time to wrap up etc. I give him a few days which turns to a week.
The following week (7 days after agreed date) it changes to "I'mma drop it off by your office."
Then over the next TWO weeks, it's a mixture of
1.) Call and can't get him
2.) "Yea man, Imma deal with it and bring it by you at 4pm today"
So Monday gone (which must be 1 month after agreed date). I just go by him. I'm expecting to see the thing finished and maybe he just had issues delivering.
Nope not yet done, "and there's another piece plus it needs to be sanded down."
He says "someone dropping off a sanding machine today and blam you dat!". I ask "What time can I collect".
"4pm"
Of course, when I go at 4pm, he ain't there.
The next day I can't get him....
The day after I call him "Imma finish it then get it sanded and drop it off etc"...of course nothing is dropped off.
Well today, I just had enough. Went back to him in HOPES to just collect but of course (1 month plus after the agreed date) it's the same story. "Need this and need that"
I just say...
"I just want my refund, I don't want no story" I was told I would get same day/next day and it's now over a month. "No more story, just refund"
Then I head back to Active Home Center and get it, in one go.... Over a month later...

What's the moral of the story?
