So when people talk about a woman having the "spirit of Jezebel," they mean a woman who enables the rule of an evil man for her own benefit, right?

It's striking to me that you can't have a Jezebel w/out an Ahab. There's a dynamism here that's paradigmatic of both the potential for harm & good.

I think of Ananias & Sapphira. But then I think of Priscilla & Aquila. Partners in evil or partners in good? It's really up to the couple to decided how they'll use their influence over each other.

Obviously, not every couple has a strong team identity, but it's fascinating to see how Scripture presents these partnerships.

Our cultural inclination is to treat them as individuals, but there's a give & take that can't be understood apart from how they relate to each other. The whole is greater than the sum of parts.

(Also, fwiw, I'd suggest that a linear or vertical framing of marriage can't adequately represent this dynamic.)
