I'm indicting myself here btw, I'm not immune to this.
I'll be honest, that phenomenal New Yorker profile of Cuomo has made it breathtakingly clear how rare it is to glean that level of analysis and insight. There are a million reasons why that is the case, structurally and institutionally. We have to challenge ourselves though.
It wasn't just that it was a critique, it was a thorough and sincere look at his rise, political philosophy, working relationships and dogma - and how that functions in concert with his constituency and rhetoric.
We don't just deserve that level of granularity for politicians we "dislike." The ones that ostensibly are committed to serving us should also clear that bar and we should be able to demand it (and from more than the usual suspects in the bylines).
