The man shot dead in Avignon is believed by police to be a far-right extremist who was part of the Identitarian movement. He was wearing a jacket displaying a Generation Identity-linked symbol

The original witness report that "Allahu akbar" was shouted appears to be false https://twitter.com/lizziedearden/status/1321795833050910720">https://twitter.com/lizziedea...
Martin Sellner, GI& #39;s Austrian leader who was investigated after it emerged the Christchurch shooter had donated to the group and exchanged friendly emails with him, has confirmed the Avignon suspect was wearing a jacket from GI& #39;s online shop

He hasn& #39;t confirmed any further link
Sellner has now deleted that post. As @PeterRNeumann points out, there is some rapid reverse-ferreting going on

Other far-right accounts that were amplifying the Avignon incident are falling into confused silence or refocusing on Nice https://twitter.com/PeterRNeumann/status/1321839464650575872?s=20">https://twitter.com/PeterRNeu...
It should be emphasised that the incident in Avignon is not confirmed to be terrorism

The man was shot after reportedly threatening someone with a weapon, and allegedly refusing to put his weapon down when ordered by police
