1. All conspiracy theories about #COVID19 and people who refuse lockdowns relie on the "Swedish example".
Did Sweden not implement some form of lockdown? What about now? A thread with recent updates.

2. First of all, there were restrictive measures put in place during the first wave. I& #39;m not gonna extend on this, but the elderly population had strict regulations in place. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-52704836">https://www.bbc.com/news/worl...
3. Also specific bars and night clubs were closed during the first wave if they could not provide enough social distancing.

4. We have read and heard everywhere that Sweden did better than many countries during the first wave. When you compare to countries you can compare with (neighbours with similar demographics) it& #39;s not true at all.
6. And the number of deaths in Sweden during the first wave was 5 times greater than its neighbours combined.
7. Now people said that the economy of Sweden is better off than its neighbours as a result... Again not true. https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-sweden-gdp-falls-8pc-in-q2-worse-nordic-neighbors-2020-8?r=US&IR=T">https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavir...
8. So what& #39;s the situation now?
The number of cases are rising for sure. And this is not due to an increase in testing as shown on this second image.

9. So what did the Swedish government decide? They all see this as increasingly worrying (although the death count is still, *for now*, quite low) and therefore decide to implement... guess what? Restrictions! https://www.svt.se/nyheter/inrikes/nya-rad-for-regionerna-undvik-butiker-och-gym">https://www.svt.se/nyheter/i...
10. Restrictions are recommended for 3 regions and in the next three weeks (Stockholm, VĂ€stra Götaland and Ăstergötland) citizens are asked to not:
- be in indoors environments (malls, gyms, but grocery shopping is ok)
- be in indoors environments (malls, gyms, but grocery shopping is ok)
11. - go to meetings (concerts, afterworks, shows, sport practice, but not applicable for children born after 2005).
- Max 50 people in public gathering.
In addition work from home is again recommended.

12. Of course these are just recommendations, but bear in mind that they were not in place before. The government also amended the law and its strategy to allow local lockdowns just in case. https://www.dn.se/sverige/tegnell-maste-kunna-vanda-pa-en-femoring/">https://www.dn.se/sverige/t...
13. The numbers, when aggregated per region and not on the whole of Sweden are scary.
Here they are for Stockholm (first graph is death and second graph is cases)

16. To conclude there has been restrictions in Sweden, just not as strict, and they led to the worst figures of all nordic countries. Now, recommendations are getting stricter and stricter and the government envisions local lockdown.
17. One last thing. The Swedish government never aimed for herd immunity. https://www.expressen.se/nyheter/qs/interna-radslaget-om-flockimmunitet/">https://www.expressen.se/nyheter/q...
18. And even declared that it& #39;s unlikely to happen at all (without a vaccine). https://www.gp.se/nyheter/sverige/tegnell-om-flockimmunitet-sÄ-kommer-det-aldrig-bli-1.33986751">https://www.gp.se/nyheter/s...
19. This is actually the current scientific consensus based on data from past epidemics. #articleInformation">https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)32153-X/fulltext #articleInformation">https://www.thelancet.com/journals/...
