1. All conspiracy theories about #COVID19 and people who refuse lockdowns relie on the "Swedish example".
Did Sweden not implement some form of lockdown? What about now? A thread with recent updates.
2. First of all, there were restrictive measures put in place during the first wave. I'm not gonna extend on this, but the elderly population had strict regulations in place. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-52704836
4. We have read and heard everywhere that Sweden did better than many countries during the first wave. When you compare to countries you can compare with (neighbours with similar demographics) it's not true at all.
5. During the first wave, more cases than neighbouring countries
6. And the number of deaths in Sweden during the first wave was 5 times greater than its neighbours combined.
8. So what's the situation now?
The number of cases are rising for sure. And this is not due to an increase in testing as shown on this second image.
10. Restrictions are recommended for 3 regions and in the next three weeks (Stockholm, VĂ€stra Götaland and Östergötland) citizens are asked to not:
- be in indoors environments (malls, gyms, but grocery shopping is ok)
11. - go to meetings (concerts, afterworks, shows, sport practice, but not applicable for children born after 2005).
- Max 50 people in public gathering.

In addition work from home is again recommended.
12. Of course these are just recommendations, but bear in mind that they were not in place before. The government also amended the law and its strategy to allow local lockdowns just in case. https://www.dn.se/sverige/tegnell-maste-kunna-vanda-pa-en-femoring/
13. The numbers, when aggregated per region and not on the whole of Sweden are scary.
Here they are for Stockholm (first graph is death and second graph is cases)
14. Here they are for VÀstra Götaland
15. And here they are for Östergötland
16. To conclude there has been restrictions in Sweden, just not as strict, and they led to the worst figures of all nordic countries. Now, recommendations are getting stricter and stricter and the government envisions local lockdown.
20. If you want restrictive measures not to last for long, cooperate, and also think about donating CPU/GPU time from your computer to science. https://foldingathome.org
