We just got some good guidance internally at @USATODAY and for our network about the election and reporting you& #39;ll see Tue night. Here& #39;s how it will work: 1/
Neither @USATODAY nor our properties nationwide will CALL any races. We rely on the @AssociatedPress for that. When that happens, we will declare it: "Biden wins XXX," and "Trump wins XXX" 2/
If AP doesn& #39;t call a race, but someone else has (NYT, WaPo) We will report that once 2 credible outlets have called a race, citing them. 3/
In many instances, several big networks will be calling them at the same time. We& #39;ll roll them up and say: Biden wins XXX, according to @CNN, NBC or whatever. That& #39;s because it IS newsworthy. 4/
Our election module, on the USAT homepage will be fastest to check for called races with a green check. You should also watch AP& #39;s Twitter feed. 5/
Several races will be close. We will be accurate in our language. Important differences between: "Too close to call" = margin is narrow. and "Too soon to know" = Not enough ballots counted to declare a winner. 6/
Internally, we& #39;ll have access to exit poll data from AP& #39;s VoteCast- beginning at 5 p.m. ET. Importantly, we will NOT publish any of that until after 8 p.m. ET. That data is great indicator of the nation. 7/
We& #39;ve affirmed a promise to you: Accuracy comes first. https://bit.ly/34Dszf4 ">https://bit.ly/34Dszf4&q... 8/8
