The goal of "socialism" isn't that everyone is equally poor, it's that everyone can have nice things (if they want to) because they don't need to fear being hungry or without a home or losing everything if they get sick. https://twitter.com/sunandavashisht/status/1321634055717150720
(Just as we already have socialism when it comes to national defense or building roads or fiat money or thousands of other things.)
Imagine how much time and energy would be freed up, and how much wealth could be generated for all of us, if people are freed from the time it takes and the stress toll of having to micromanage decisions about basic necessities.
Imagine how many people could start businesses when they know they'll get healthcare if they get sick.

Imagine how many people wouldn't have to resort to crime to put food on the table.
How do you think so many European countries have a high GDP yet very low crime rates?

Or high life expectancy (much higher than the US) yet much lower healthcare costs?

And they still have very rich people too, yet they have much fewer poor people than the US.
Taxing very rich people a lot in order to invest back into society is just collecting dividends from an investment society made, by providing, among other things: company laws, roads, mail service, food safety, building codes, medical research, international treaties, etc. etc.
