So many schools have celebrations and high production hype videos heading into the fourth quarter- all claiming this is their quarter. So I asked myself: who& #39;s quarter is it really? A dive into college football analytics and plot making in R.
To see who& #39;s best in quarter four, we need to compare it to quarters 1-3. Here& #39;s what that data looks like. Not a ton of surprises- good teams remain really good through the first three quarters of play.
But there are some huge differences when we only look at plays that happen in the fourth quarter. Some immediate questions: why is Air Force so high up on passing? Arizona on running?
@AaronPFriedman brings up a good point- defense is typically highlighted in these videos! SO how do these traditions impact the fourth quarter D?
Here& #39;s how the first three quarters work out. Again- good defenses are good, not a ton of surprises. Still really fun to see what teams are impressive against the run and so-so against the pass. [Scale of X and Y axis inverted because more points on Defense=BAD]
And the much awaited fourth quarter... all I can say is wow. Some really strange teams pop out of here. Poor Arizona and congrats Mizzou!
Just going to round this thread out with my favorite fourth quarter hype videos. Feel free to join in y& #39;all!
