Players from Iceland aren't often in gossip columns mentioned in the same sentence as clubs such as Man Utd, Liverpool and Juventus. For Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson, that is the new normal ⚽️

Here is a thread about the Icelandic 🇮🇸 (not Swedish) wonderkid:
Age: 17
Position: Versatile midfielder, winger or wing-back
Clubs: ÍA (former) and Norrköping (current)
Nationality: Iceland - 2 caps for U21s
Ísak was born in Sutton Coldfield and he lived in England for the first years of his life. He then moved to Akranes, a town on the west coast of Iceland.

Some of the best footballers to come from Iceland have come from Akranes, including Ísak’s father Joey Guðjónsson.
During his player career Joey, Ísak's father, played in the Premier League, La Liga and the Eredivisie. He is now the manager of ÍA in Akranes.

Ísak’s grandfather is Guðjón Þórðarson, former manager of Barnsley, Crewe, Notts County and Stoke.
It was Ísak’s father that gave him his first chance of first-team football at the age of 15. He became the youngest player in ÍA’s history.

Ísak on his father: “My dad will always be my biggest role model. He has helped me so much, both as a person and as a footballer”
Before signing for Norrköping in Sweden, Ísak went on trial to Ajax, Brighton and Nordsjælland.

On his decision: "As a footballer, athlete and a person I wanted to take the step from ÍA into a professional environment and into adult football as soon as possible"
It's safe to say that Ísak made a very smart decision to join Norrköping in 2019.

He went almost straight into the first-team and this season he has cemented his place as a starter, even though he's only 17.
At Norrköping he quickly earned the respect of his teammates. In an interview with NT earlier this year, his teammate Jonathan Levi said:

"There are not many 17-year-olds you see who are so focused and serious about football. I'm incredibly impressed with him"
Ísak is very focused on football and recently said in an interview that he needed to find another hobby.

"It's just football all the time. I play football, watch football, think about football and play Football Manager. I don't know if it's good or bad, in some ways it's good ⚽️
In an interview, I did with him in May I asked him to describe himself as a player. Some points he pointed out:

👉Understanding of game
👉Passing
👉Good left foot - can shoot
👉Creative
👉Work-rate

"I give my all for my team and I want to win every time I play football" 👏
Man Utd, Liverpool and Juventus are all said to be scouting him. Man Utd is his favourite team.

"Manchester United is my favourite team but right now Norrköping is my dream club."

He and his dad watched a lot of United matches together when Joey played in England.
As mentioned before Ísak is born in England, and he could play for England if he wants to. But his heart beats for Iceland.

In May he said to me: "Never a question. Iceland every day of the week" 🇮🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Ísak looks to be a generational talent for Icelandic football. I hope to see him soon with the national team and it will be interesting to see what is next for him in club football 👀
