That Nigerians in government don't think far enough is hardly surprising. It explains our current mess. I, however, also blame the private sector. They keep adapting to nonsense and make no collective effort towards change, except for collusion with govt when innovation threatens
Most local businesses are always looking for individual competitive edge from government policy. Those who don't really need government and are thriving are almost regulated out of existence. I cant forget the way people were celebrating fines slammed on a Nigerian telco.
The truth is that with a very dysfunctional government, it is the private sector that is the last recourse. I am surprised that a government that has suddenly realized that they can only survive with taxation going forward, isn't enabling the right environment for business growth
Then again, I shouldn't be surprised that the government is once again clueless. Nigeria has many large markets for products and an even larger labour force for production. The world is changing and this labor force is fortunately largely young. This is why education is VITAL!
I think that education as a private sector initiative should become a major thing. I don't just mean private schools but almost all businesses becoming part of a consortium to save Nigerian education as a whole. That ETF (or whatever it is called now) contribution, gave me ideas.
Businesses should take control of that initiative and collectively recreate the labor force. Nigerian businesses should stop thinking of themselves alone and form collectives on issues that threaten viability of all businesses. SARS was such a threat and businesses were absent.
I am no longer in Nigeria and I am retired. Someone like @markessien started @hnginternship. It should become an industry-wide thing and go deeper than internship. It is for the benefit of everyone. It can also be done in other sectors.

I will write more about this.
We keep talking about ”The Men Who Built America” but forget that they started corporations. It was corporations and businesses that built America. The same can be done for Nigeria in all aspects.
