after 9 years of researching for QI the one fact I can't get my head around is that this symbol DOES NOT MEAN THE PRODUCT IS RECYCLABLE

it's some greenwashing bullshit that companies can pay to put on their packaging and say they contributed to european recycling efforts
i have never ONCE seen that explained on any packaging and it's so painfully obvious that companies use it as a loophole knowing that people will glance at it and not know any better.

HOW IS THAT ALLOWED
the while circular arrow in the green is basically the one to look for cause that means 70% or more of local authorities can recycle it, and any instructions like RINSE are super clear.

All the other 3 arrowed crap and interlocking arrows nonsense is just faff
all non-widely-recyclable packaging should have a big red embarrassing mandatory THIS IS NOT RECYCLABLE sticker

then maybe the manufacturers might actually start using all that space on the cartons and boxes to explain how to recycle it instead of these coquettish coded symbols
