This movie is another one that I let go far too long from my radar. I had heard good things since it came out, but I just avoided for some reason. Similar to the Unfriended movies. And like those movies, I had no real reason to avoid them, even if one was stronger than the other.
Plus, this movie has a decent cast and the characters feel pretty organic as well, so their dumb mistakes actually makes the movie more entertaining to me.
More shocking to me is how much the footage works, even when some truly outrageous things are happening and the suspension of disbelief is dangerously close to crashing.
Some interesting thematic ties to Dante and going deeper into hell is another element that ties it together for me. Again, some fun subversion of tropes makes it fun, even when it seems obvious the movie is winking to the audience, and not always in a helpful way.
