France is seriously a peculiar liberal outlier. There is no freedom in any society that is absolute, otherwise it backfires and descends into despotism. The French government, and its history, knows this very well.

In democratic societies, lots of energy goes into negotiating daily the parameters & responsibility of freedom to achieve coexistence, pluralism & dignity for all citizens. This is not missing in France, rather it is insanely skewed to favour some groups & topics over others. 2/3

If the French establishment extends freedom of speech/freedom to offend for some areas of public discourse and withdraws it for others, then they should just say it, they are masquerading xenophobia and failed domestic policy with a pretense of civilized respectability. 3/3
