The book of Revelation was about the Christian-Roman experience. The End of Times was the end of the Roman Empire. It was written for early Christians for hope against their oppression. The great red dragon with 7 heads and ten horns was the Roman Empire. The beast rising from

the sea, also with 7 heads and 10 horns is Emperor Nero. This story of good v. Evil is the story of Christians v. Rome. The second beast represents the false prophets who encouraged people to worship the Emperor. This is John’s perspective. He sees the empire as evil, oppressing,

deceitful and blasphemous. This would speak to Christians who experienced mistreatment and the threat of death because of their refusal to worship the emperor rather than Christ. The Council of Nicaea didn’t want Revelation in the Bible because it was no longer relevant. Some so

called Christians actually think that Revelation was the last book written

John himself added to scripture after writing the book of Revelation, which is generally conceded to have been written while he was on the Isle of Patmos. Its author, it wasn't a mystic

prophecy of something that was going to occur thousands of years later, it was both rousing propaganda message and revenge fantasy all in one. The author of Revelation had just lived through an unimaginable catastrophe. In 70 A.D. an armed Jewish revolt in Jerusalem was put down

by 60,000 Roman soldiers who also burned down the temple and destroyed the city.

This was not how things were supposed to go. Early followers of Jesus didn't think his return was something far off, but very soon, even in their lifetimes. He was supposed to come back and destroy

Rome, the empire that killed him. Instead, Rome was the one winning, and Jesus was nowhere to be found. What had happened to the plan? So the author of Revelation, known only as John, wrote a book about how Jesus was totally going to return and annihilate those Romans.
