Be ye holy for I am holy (1 Peter 1.16)

It is important for every believer to know the difference between their standing and their state.
YOUR STANDING

You are SANCTIFIED "by the blood of Jesus Christ and saved. v2,9

You are begotten of God the Father unto a "lively hope" by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. v3
You have an inheritance INCORRUPTIBLE UNDEFILED and that FADETH NOT AWAY "reserved in heaven" for you. v4
You are once saved, forever saved, "kept by the power of God" v5 and you look unto "the glory that should follow", that is the "revelation of Jesus Christ" (not the coming tribulation)
You are an "obedient children" (not because you obeyed the law) but that you believed "the gospel preached", in "obeying the truth and this "purified your soul" unlike those who "stumble at the word, being disobedient" to the truth of the gospel. chap 2v8
YOUR STATE

Thus "Be ye holy; for I am holy." 1 Peter 1:16 is about christian conduct in this world (not about working for salvation), for we are told to be holy (set apart) in "all MANNER OF CONVERSATION"
That is to lay aside "malice", "guile", "hypocrisies", "envies" and all "evil speaking", rather "as newborn babes, desire THE SINCERE MILK OF THE WORD, that ye may grow thereby" 1 Peter 2:2

And christian conduct brings reward NOT salvation;
We read that "the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to EVERY MAN'S WORK."

Of this Paul tells us "If any MAN'S WORK abide which he hath built thereupon, HE SHALL RECEIVE A REWARD". (1 Peter 1:17,1 Corinthians 3:14)
