Yesterday we visited the youngest CEDA client in Ghanzi, 19 year old Promise Kgari. Promise finished his Form 5 in 2018 at the age of 17. To keep him busy, his parents bought him 80 layers (dikoko tsa mae)and he erected a makeshift chicken coop right in their residential yard.
He approached local primary schools and they agreed to buy eggs from him. He was doing so well he managed to acquire a further 140 layers. The future was looking bright until Covid 19 arrived and the sales dropped, leaving him with eggs on his hands (not face, luckily).
The ever smart entrepreneur that he is, Promise realized that even as the demand for eggs was slowing down because of Covid19, the demand for chicken meat was high. He went to CEDA and shared his dream to diversify from chicken eggs to chicken meat.
He had knocked at the right door because CEDA has a program called Letlhabile. This program was introduced after Covid 19 in an effort to assist small bussiness with funding of up to P10,000.He got the money from CEDA in August and bought 500 broilers (dikoko tsa nama) from BAMB.
Promise is now a remarkable poultry farmer in Ghanzi and his chickens are selling like fat cakes. At only P55 per chicken you can choose to have it slaughtered or alive. His number: 77 067 956
O mogaka young man and we celebrate you

We hope his story will inspire you. Go to the nearest CEDA branch and ask how you too can benefit from this program.
