Problem with another full national lockdown is many of the those demanding it don't have skin in the game - it'll be poorer people delivering goods to maintain lifestyle and comforts of richer people whilst other poorer people are pushed further toward unemployment/poverty
In other words, the consequences are felt most keenly by those not served during lockdown, whilst the idea of a full lockdown seems most popular amongst those who (broadly speaking) are, and can continue to be with their protected incomes and workplace security
I know this isn't an original point, but it doesn't get due consideration - we have found ourselves with a secure/served vs insecure/serving dichotomy, and those winning from that seem all too comfortable with the poverty and insecurity their comfort can inflict on the latter
By 'all too comfortable', I mean in the sense of continuing to demand the arrangement that least threatens and best serves their current interests. For a good many others though (particularly the non-grad populace, but more on that later), full lockdown would be disastrous
If a parent in the communities we serve doesn't hold the magnanimous, seemingly-publicly-spirited views of someone who wants full lockdown (whilst knowing they'll be on full pay and their job won't disappear), could I blame them? Not really. Not at all.
If that same parent continues in the informal economy - the nails and lashes, the odd jobs, the cash in hand stuff - again could I blame them? Whilst knowing the hardship they're going through and the impact it has, including long-term, on their kids? Again, not really.
Odd that we can accept a desperate, loving parent would be willing to travel halfway across the globe to ensure a better life for their kids, but we can't accept a parent on a council estate in Salford might contravene one of Matt Hancock's latest rules by the exact same instinct
Christmas coming too. If it's incredibly important to you to give your kids a happy Christmas after such a difficult year, which you can do with your protected salary, then remember a parent without that protection will feel the exact same desire & will want to work to ensure it
