The slave master might have left, but his values still remain in us. We have been taught to hate ourselves so bad, that any power one possesses over the other is used as a tool for dominance.

From the club bouncer, to the lady at the NYSC office, to the security guard at the gate, and to the soldier. For all these people who have been given a mandate or a gun, they assume the power of a god over anyone they come across. Only what they deem as right is right.

This is the reason why most strive to attain some level of power, to immunise them from lower powers that be, and to exert their own dominance when the need arises. We need a lot of love in this country, and a change in the way we see ourselves.
