Educators and language-in-classroom thread: When encouraging students to counter each other and/or learning to have a healthy academic debate, what are the words that you use? (1/n)
Words like "attack", "tear apart", etc. are really scary for me both as a student/educator in a classroom. (2/n)
I have tried my best to use softer and more encouraging words like "critique", "constructive feedback", "professional debate" etc. Mostly to ensure that we do not think of academics/science as a war (3/n)
What do others do in their classes?
No wonder that there is an abundance of words borrowed from a war-like situation in our classrooms since science as a discipline has derived so much from war! (4/n)
Will keep incorporating more in this thread as thoughts come to my mind.
