if you care about people with ocd and similar mental illnesses, you need to stop interacting with posts that say “rt for good luck” or “rt or else something bad will happen.” even the seemingly positive ones can trigger intrusive thoughts and even induce panic. im being serious.
in case you genuinely didn’t know, ocd compulsions are based off the idea that something you do (or don’t do) can cause an unrelated event to happen (or not happen.) flick the light switch three times or you’ll get hurt. retweet that tweet or else something bad will happen.
it plays off of textbook ocd symptoms. my mind is still racing from seeing one on my timeline and it wasn’t even a super scary one. they’re just bait to get likes and retweets anyway. please keep your timeline accessible for people like me and DON’T interact with them.
hi! thanks everyone for boosting this information. i do a lot of writing on mental illness, queer history + more, so if you’d like to support my work, i’m gonna drop my tip jar! i’m an unemployed + disabled full-time college student so anything helps! <3
