What is a conversation about Christianity without talking about love? The second greatest commandment, next to loving God, is to love your neighbor. But I’ll talk about love another day. Today, I want to talk about hate. /1
Proverbs 6:16-19 says there are 7 things God hates. 1. A proud look. The Amplified Bible defines this as “the attitude that makes one overestimate oneself and discount others.” Proverbs 3:34 says God mocks proud mockers. He opposes the proud. Pride prompts racism. /2
Pride makes us want to close our borders. Pride feeds white supremacy. It’s no coincidence that a group call themselves the Proud Boys. Pride also leads people to make decisions based on their own interest and ignore the needs of others. The opposite of pride is humility. /3
2nd thing God hates: A lying tongue. There are websites dedicated to tracking the lies spoken by this administration. Social media platforms have created fact checker prompts to discourage sharing misinformation. /4
When you find out something you were told was a lie, how do you respond? Do you humbly admit you were wrong to believe it, or do you stubbornly continue as if the lie doesn’t matter? That stubbornness is also a form of pride. That’s two things God hates for the price of one. /5
3rd: Hands that shed innocent blood. This could be straightforward murder. That’s obvious. But if you’re going to frame it with a pro-life lens then you have to take into consideration everyone’s life. The countless people who have died at the hands of police for being Black. /6
The hundreds of thousands who have died because of poor pandemic response. You can’t advocate for one while neglecting, or even participating in, the oppression of others. Innocent blood in this case is anyone not guilty of a capital sin. /7
In Matthew 5:21 Jesus says when we're angry with someone, we are subject to the same judgement as murder. So even if you do not physically take a life, it would reason that your anger is hated just as much. Luke 6:45 - The evil man brings evil things out of the evil in his heart
4th: A heart that creates wicked plans. This ties in with the last one. Do your political choices encourage the good of others or do they result in harm? This one is about intention. /9
Is a policy that profits and already profitable, small group while hurting the majority, most of whom were already suffering, wicked or good? Thinking about the things that you support, who do they serve? /10
5th: Feet that run rapidly to evil. Sensing a pattern? That which is not good, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8) is evil. What can you say about the things you’re running to? /11
6th: A false witness who declares lies. So not only does God hate the liar, but he also hates the one who continues to spread the lies. Interesting. /12
7th: One who spreads strife among brothers. One of the biggest sins of this administration, from a Christian standpoint, is that it actively promotes division among the country. /12
If you’ve ever seen a horror movie, or even some adventure movies, you know the bad guy wins when the heroes are separated. Division serves no one but them. Think, then, about why they are so adamant to separate us? /14
In 1 Corinthians 1:10, Paul appeals to the church that there be no division among them. Romans 16:17-18 says to watch out for those who cause division and creates obstacles contrary to the doctrine because that person does not serve our Lord but themselves /15
and deceives with their smooth talk and flattery. 2 Timothy 4:3 says a time will come when people will not endure sound teaching, but instead follow teachers who suit their own passions. Is this you? /16
