I've always had this preconception that Tokyo Ghoul is a must-read, even long before i got into the medium. Thats the reputation it has, and i finally understand why. I watched the anime before reading it and still it sucked me in & couldnt stop reading. Broke into my top 5 manga
The premise of TG is such a interesting one, and it explores most of the themes that it births the opportunity for extremely well. The inner battle that many of the characters go through is brilliantly portrayed in different ways, the best example of this is Kaneki, but also Amon
The art is so fantastic and unique. The last arc is one of the best arcs ive ever read in any manga. However, most other arcs move forward too fast and would have benefitted from some more intricate build-up. To sum it up shortly: Tokyo Ghoul is the epitome of beautifully tragic.
