who wants my Spit Hot Takes about his role as intergenerational keeper of knowledge in a world that tries to disrupt that transmission/work on new things and why it's queer to have him there
like james has talked about how the story of skyjacks is queer in part bc it breaks from old ways, from old knowledges, but not all knowledges and ways are created equal, especially those created by people who don't have the Usual Ways of intergenerational knowledge transmission
AKA most queer people do not have familial access to older queer knowledges, which is how we get stuff like ppl thinking they're reinventing the wheel when they're just repeating the same discourse from the 70s, and the 90s, and the 2010s.
because of this, queer genealogies of thought are often extremely broken up and/or self-centered/created; maybe you found the word to describe yourself but do you know the history of your practices, where you draw your queer lineage from? how do you attend to that knowledge?
but there ARE queer elders who exist and who share their knowledges with people in their communities, who have histories they repeat and traditions they share. I think maybe a lot of this comes up in specific communities--leather is the one that is coming to mind immediately.
(this is also why there is history we need to consider when discussing age gaps in queer storytelling, but I'll get cancelled another day)
also it fits bc no one likes old queers and no on likes spit (but I like both)
