Women who call out misogyny & sexism aren’t inherently against all men. Black people who call out systemic racism aren’t inherently against all white folks/interracial marriages. Nobody is taking your ‘light skinned women only’ rights away when you’re asked to call out colorism.
Reducing it to you being denied access to light skinned women illuminates your subconscious feelings because deep down, you know that your ‘preference’ is rooted in colorism. Nevertheless, actively being against colorism doesn’t mean you can’t be with a light skinned woman.
Furthermore, black men, dark skinned women being distrusting of you if you’re with a light skinned woman is valid, given the history and pattern that usually comes with it. We have to EARN their trust through our advocacy. Just as white people have to earn ours.
When you’re part of a privileged group, people with marginalized identities not automatically being trusting of you is normal and valid. Just men women not automatically trusting men because they seem ‘nice’ or claim they are. Again, history and pattern.
There’s a lot more nuance in this conversations but I’ll leave it at this for today. Men, Listen to dark skinned women when they talk about colorism, amplify their voices, advocate for their representation & corrective promotion, and if you have the means, put them on.
