Let's talk #slates #actors! You know when we ask for a full body slate, and you awkwardly stand there waiting while you do your own creepy pan up and down your body? It's just as creepy for us having to watch that!
Instead INSERT A FULL BODY STILL PHOTO

Do your slate as normal and cut to a picture of yourself. Avoid the pornographic full body pan. The pan also doesn't help us get a sense of your whole presence. It means we are only seeing pieces of your body parts. It's weird.

Also when you pan too slowly it feels pornographic. When you pan too quickly it feels like a rollercoaster. Insert a photo and you get to control exactly how you look without awkwardly standing there feeling like you are being objectified.

Or you can do a split screen slate. Have one side of the slate be the full body photo of you looking cute, and the other side of the screen be your live slate.

They are not indicative of your acting ability and are not an audition. It’s information we need about how to pronounce your name, where you are in the world, how tall you are, or whatever else we need.

I’ve never watched and audition and thought “gosh that was great but their slate was AWFUL! We definitely shouldn’t hire them!”
Slates are just information. They won’t get or lose you the job!
