another day, another viral art tutorial that conflates having a unique, identifiable style with not being knowledgable about the rules of drawing (motion, perspective, etc.)
I think these tutorials are really helpful to some but have the potential to be kind of harmful to others. people really push this idea of "style" but forget that the things that make someone's style unique are usually instances of them breaking rules to make something new
my style (for example) has tons of room for improvement but if I shaded realistically, drew bodies comprised of arcs instead of sharp lines, or followed the rules of perspective, my style wouldn't be my style. it'd be someone else's, which is the beautiful thing about art!
