Class isn't a protected characteristic in hate crime bill. Given how addicts and homeless are treated, never mind spoken about, you'd need to create a parallel legal system just to deal with case volume. Then again, who cares about their feelings eh? They're only dropping dead.
"Junkies".
"Scroungers"
"Neds"
"Alkies"
And these are just words. The persecution of such groups is not only cultural, but written into the DNA of our society. The government would have to prosecute itself if harm to specific groups is the metric we use here.
Which group is more hated and more persecuted than problem drug users? I'll wait.
I got ripped at school for red hair. Being Catholic. Not having the right brand of trainers. Listening to rap music. Having an alkie mum. Had to physically fight on occasion out of self respect. Where were all the activists and advocacy groups? Oh that's right we were poor 😂
Thats how we were SUPPOSED to live. No need for laws protecting THOSE people.
Obviously I'm for prosecuting hate crime. 100%. But if its being done in the name of equality then it must be extended to every group - equally.
I think this bill is really about advocacy. Middle class politicians writing legislation for middle class charities and pressure groups. Hence the lack of any class analysis. The result: the most vulnerable and persecuted groups recieve no protection.
