Hi just a reminder that while we’re working to #GetOutTheVote we also need to be preparing to stop a coup. Please form your coalitions now and be prepared to take immediate action if (/when?) a coup happens. Only our direct action can stop it. https://wagingnonviolence.org/2020/09/10-things-you-need-to-know-to-stop-a-coup/
From the above: it’s a coup if the government:

- Stops counting votes;
- Declares someone a winner who didn’t get the most votes (the electoral college setup makes this likely and easier to disguise, so watch!); or
- Allows someone to stay in power who didn’t win the election.
Coups have to be stopped quickly, with immediate direct action. Talk to five people you’ll protest with today. Reach outside your usual protest group if you can. Figure out what organizations are preparing to march and make a plan to join them. Make a protest kit now.
We have been a frighteningly split country for a long time, but one thing you have in common with many conservatives is that you both believe you should get to elect your leader. Focus on THIS, and only this, when recruiting. This is about democracy, which means all votes count.
Talk to people you know in civil service roles about how they can subvert attempts at a coup by interfering with communication, production, and carrying out the orders of the party seizing power. Every single person can play a role.
This is not the time to let others do the protesting or figure things out. This might be your first strike or protest, and that’s okay. But you need to join in, and encourage others to do so too.
You’re a more likely to find your courage & stick to your values in a scary & uncertain situation if you commit ahead of the game to take action if events unfold a certain way. So while you don’t have to sign this pledge, I encourage you to make one! https://choosedemocracy.us/
PS I cribbed all of this from the article at the top of the thread—just thought key points would be most accessible if tweeted. Please read the whole thing!
You really get it all with me: comic books, cat pics, sweet YA romcoms, and advice for overthrowing your illegitimate government 🤷‍♀️ What can I say, I have layers.
Ugh I foolishly broke the thread but it continues here https://twitter.com/syntactics/status/1321992641551212545?s=20
