I also like to use my Twitter account to promote and amplify others and causes I care for (equality, inclusion, pharmacy, governance, running!). I have a ratio in my mind for tweets that should be about me versus RTs and promoting others - maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t
I once had a corporate comms person try to recruit me to promote corporate messages, they told me I follow too many others and needed to reduce this to below 100!

If you follow very few people but want lots of followers, what does that say?
It says you’re only interested in broadcasting messages and not in genuine engagement. I follow lots of people because it enriches and adds more serendipity to my timeline

This is also how I overcome the ‘echo chamber’ effect - sure maybe it’s just a much bigger echo chamber, but it has a lot more diversity than just a few 100 accounts
I don’t think 1000s accounts I follow are in my echo chamber, they connect me to lots of other echo chambers
