I'm glad this comment came up about the catalog I wanted to do, because it's a fair thing to assume, even if I think the conclusion drawn from it is silly.

One of the reasons I chose to do it myself was to *limit* any bad faith inclusion of grudges or misunderstandings
I have my biases and personal thoughts, to be clear, but I don't have a dog in the fight vis-a-vis banning. I'm not a TO, I don't run a server or social media group, and I'm not a member of some kangaroo court who can just "ban people" and that's it.

I *do* have goals, however!
It'll take some time to get some actual data in, provided people take advantage, but basically these are my goals:

1. Show that even given my wide parameters, there are actually not that many "bans", not nearly at many as is wailed about
A common refrain from fringe community reactionaries and even some mainstream hand-wringers is that there are "more bans than ever" and people get banned for minor things all the time.

That is not *remotely* true, and I'm positive this catalog will come to prove that over time
2. If someone is banned, the people doing it do their best to announce it in some way and make clear the length and reasons

There seems to be an unfounded fear that people are quietly discriminated against from entering FGC spaces, banned for "wrongthink" without knowing what
I happen to believe that people are hit with bans quite notably, and the strict rules for submission onto the list means that source must be provided in some way.

This will also have the twofold effect of showing that I think some bans aren't stated for fear of retaliation
3. (Sorry I'm at work) Show that there are "bans" that are more or less that are player self exiling than big scene leaders and TO's actually banning anyone.

A few ppl have asked where Infiltration is, and I just say the truth (which he likes to say too): he was never banned!
I have often been very critical of "Person goes away for [x] amount of time," because almost always the idea is to return and hope everything's died down.

Were there a list that cataloged prior and ongoing bans from sub-communities that aren't as known, that might change
You don't have to trust me or my intentions, but I will at least be straight and say what I aim for with this project. In turn, I hope that proves I'm acting in good faith.
