For nine years, @shl has been building @gumroad and channeling successful creators.

Here's a summary of his thoughts on Imposter Syndrome, Being Different, and Publishing Before It's Perfect.
In the beginning, everyone has imposter syndrome. It means you're human and humble and modest. A lot of creators think, “I don't know how to be different” or “I don’t deserve to publish something.” But people underrate how different they really are and how much they have to say.
The best way to solve imposter syndrome is to lie to yourself for a bit. Pick parts of yourself and share them. Learn things and teach people about the things you've learned.
When you do that, you start to build an audience and you start to get signal that what you're saying is valuable. Ultimately, you realize the concern you had about being different is wrong. You *do* have an interesting perspective. Everyone does.
The more you do the work, the more the negative voice in your head just shuts up. And you don't have to make it perfect to get it out the door. You can spend time trying to write the perfect book, or you could release a book, get feedback, and get to your perfect book way faster.
The goal is to feel comfortable being done and creating value for people, even though it might not be perfect in your eyes. Your audience will tell you, “This is what I want from you next.”
You’re also learning. Even if you don't make a bunch of money, you're still improving the craft and you’re improving yourself. The goal is to become so competent people want to pay you for what you offer – and you'll no longer worry about feeling like you don’t deserve it.
Sahil shared these and other reflections during his conversation with Gumroad Head of Community, @RandallKanna, announcing the #14DayProduct Challenge.
