My call to Portland City Council:

I planned to talk about the fact that the worlds top human rights groups just sent out a letter to 3,500 mayors and city councils around our nation, and used Portland as an example of brutality and aggression.
I planned to talk about why our police are documented as supporting far right white nationalists but IA and IPR refuse to investigate.
I planned to talk about the fact that our police leadership has failed, allowing over 50% of the force to go untrained, lied about chemical weapons to oversight groups, and continues to allow brutality, with impunity.
I planned to talk about how PPB only clear 12% of rape cases, 8% of thefts and only 41% of murders, all well below the national averages.

But then Mayor Wheeler talked about the election security plan…
…something that is being worked on days before when we have known this would be an issue for months…
…in which he states all options are on the table including poisonous toxic chemicals that harm human and animal life and are banned by the Geneva Convention, indemnification for other departments where the city is saying, come brutalize our people and don’t worry about it..
...and further disenfranchisement of our voters. It seems the plan from our city and governor is a conversation about acceptable collateral damage. Who and what are we willing to sacrifice?
Like usual, in the face of utter police failure and community demands for change, the ask is for more money.

So. I will ask all of you, and hope for an answer here:
How many Black and indigenous and activists of color being beaten by police are acceptable?
How many times should we allow them to disenfranchise us?
And this is not a hypothetical as PPB has gassed homes while parents begged them not to, A dad was assaulted while doing so. How many toddlers and families being gassed in their beds are acceptable to you?
And Final Question, Mayor Wheeler, you said in a tweet that you met with the business community about public safety.

Have you met with the families who have been beaten or gassed by the police?
Mayor Wheeler only responded, yes he has met with them.

Can anyone confirm this?
No response on the collateral damage.
No response on the disenfranchisement.
No response of brutality.
