Chrissy Teigen is an absolute warrior. Her story is so close to my own, though I have been fortunate to not experience loss. I haven’t always been pro-choice, but personal experience and reading personal stories remind me that women’s reproductive rights should be personal.
My heart both aches for the loss and rejoices for the healing. Conversations around abortion are used as a weapon against women in a unique way. I encourage everyone to read and empathize with women who seek out abortions at any time. It’s complex and deeply personal.
Whether it’s a medically complex situation, a financially complex situation, a relationally complex situation or otherwise (often it’s a combination of all of this), we need to have more empathy. We need to make the social changes that reduce abortion rates.
Calling people murders or claiming moral high ground does not reduce abortions. Making abortions illegal does not reduce abortions. Do your research thoroughly around this topic. Medical decisions should be made between a woman and her doctor.
If you claim to care about the unborn, make sure you are voting for policies that 1. Reduce the rates of unwanted pregnancies 2. Provide equitable access to affordable health care 3. Support livable wages and close the gender wage gap.
I used to want to be a counselor for women facing this decision. I have done a lot of research around the topic. I am done letting people use abortion as an excuse to vote for policies and candidates who do not have a consistent pro-life ethic.
