@washingtonpost @RobertKlemko @katemshepherd @mauraewing IMMEDIATELY CHANGE the word “ENGULF” in the title of the article about the Walter Wallace shooting. Why? 1. It is not accurate or ethical 2. It feeds into Trump Administration’s narrative of the Black Lives Matter protests-
- A WEEK BEFORE THE ELECTION. Was that your agenda? 3. It represents the racist journalistic practice of dehumanizing people of color by describing large groups of non-white people with language used for natural disasters. It’s so common that academics write about it. Look it up.
This is unethical journalism at its most dangerous. This title DELIBERATELY stokes white fears of black protesters invading cities & suburbs WHILE PEOPLE ARE VOTING. You are targeting the fears of white voters IN A SWING STATE. Are these three reporters trying to help Trump win?
I was not surprised to see NO black reporters for this story. Is that because WAPO does not hire black reporters or editors as I have heard? This story already had a dangerous reporting error that you had to correct. The use of the term “engulf” is not an error; it is DELIBERATE.
Hire black reporters AND black editors to ETHICALLY & THOUGHTFULLY report on these issues. Report ACCURATELY on #BLM. It is one of the biggest stories of the year. Your title is a LIE. CHANGE the title & be aware of the implications of your reporting A WEEK BEFORE AN ELECTION!
I am disgusted, disturbed & disappointed. I am a PAYING SUBSCRIBER to the Washington Post. I will be canceling my subscription.
