Are you aware that there was a land in the Philippines where rape didn& #39;t exist? "๐ช๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ด ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐๐ผ๐ธ (2014)" made me tear up while watching. I highly encourage everyone to watch it! Here& #39;s why: +
The multi-awarded documentary was about the community of Bontoc, Cordillera region, where women had a high social standing for simply being women. They were in a rapeless society because men and women were of equal importance. +
Despite walking in public barechested almost all their lives, women never received any form of disrespect from anyone in the Bontoc community. Breasts were not seen as sexual objects, but as sources of milk and nourishment for children. +
Women in the community felt safe to the point that their homes did not have to have locks. During wars, enemies were warded off by women lifting their skirt and showing their genitalia. +
This documentary proves that rape happens NOT because of how women dress- women in the Bontoc community could go barechested in public and still be treated with dignity and respect by their community. +
Does rape happen because it is in the nature of men to rape? No. The Bontoc community also consisted of male village elders but not a single rape case was recorded in their community before militarization crept in. +
